Aviation Policy Overview

The Aviation section of QGIF’s policy covers loss or damage to Queensland Government-owned aircraft including cover for third party personal injury claims and property damage claims.

Remotely piloted aircraft (e.g.drones) are covered under the Property and General Liability sections of QGIF Policy.

Who’s covered?

  • All Queensland Government Agencies insured with QGIF who own fixed wing aircraft and rotary aircraft or have fixed wing aircraft and rotary aircraft within their care, custody or control, are covered under the Aviation section of QGIF’s policy.

What’s covered?

The cover provided by QGIF is divided into two parts:

  • Part 1 – Material Loss or Damage, covers the Agency for any loss or damage to the insured aircraft, as well as aircraft that is in the care, custody and control of the insured Agency. Loss or damage to an Agency’s aircraft may be caused by events such as:
    • fire
    • lightning
    • explosion
    • impact damage
    • malicious damage
    • natural disasters such as storms, cyclones, floods, earthquakes
    • hail.
  • Part 2 – Legal Liability, covers the Agency for legal liability claims made by third parties in respect of personal injury and property damage caused by the use of the insured aircraft, or aircraft in the care, custody and control of the insured Agency.

What’s excluded?

  • loss or damage resulting from wear and tear or inadequate maintenance. This does not apply to subsequent accidental loss or damage.

QGIF can extend its cover to include international flights, however the Agency must notify QGIF beforehand.

Yes.  The excess/deductible for Aviation is $10,000 which is shown on your Agency’s Insurance Certificate (if applicable).

Property claim payments are made on a replacement and/or reinstatement basis (ie: new for old). We do not apply any depreciation when paying your Agency’s claim.  For any liability claim, QGIF will manage the claim with the third party including the payment of any legal costs incurred in managing the claim.

Yes. You will need to advise us of the following:

  • Asset ID
  • Year of manufacture
  • Make and model of aircraft
  • Registration number
  • Type of aircraft – e.g. rotary or fixed wing
  • Passenger seating capacity
  • Replacement value in Australian dollars
  • Aircraft usage
  • Whether the aircraft will operate outside the Commonwealth of Australia. If yes, please provide details.
